Mountain Race Junior

A light back country ski for younger mountain people

Mountain Race Jr. is the perfect back country ski, at a size perfect for younger explorers.

Its 3/4 steel edge offers control; its soft tip and prominent sidecut allow easy turns. A perfect ski for playful days in the snow, frustrating slides in slippery conditions can be prevented with the attachment of a short skin: good times for all guaranteed (well, almost).

A 30mm mohair skin is recommended for these skis, cut to about 3 to 5 cm behind the heel of the boot. A 45mm for better grip is also possible.

We also recommend NNN bindings or junior bindings, allowing the use of the same shoes as classic cross-country skiing. Combi boots are a good idea, too – they’re usually thicker, warmer and more stable. There is nothing wrong in mounting a NIS plate or an adjustable touring binding either.

Choosing the right length

Ski length is determined according to body weight and height. The table below is only a guide, however – experience, skill, terrain and individual needs can all influence your choice of length.

Generally speaking, moving through rugged terrain calls for shorter skis than the open mountain plateau. And for beginners, short skis are easier to control. If you’re mainly skiing along tracks, length isn’t the most crucial factor. For good float on deep snow, a slighter wider ski is useful. Lighter skiers might consider a shorter ski; heavier skiers a longer ski. Skiers with loads such as backpacks and sledges might consider a longer ski.
